Coach Jay has coached with the Armor since the organization’s inception in 2021. He started coaching at the 10U level and continued with the same core group of young men since. He will continue to serve as the 13U coach in 2024. Coach Jay has a lifetime love for football and played the game starting at the age of 10. He continued his football career up to the arena football level.
Coach Jay has a wife and three kids, all of whom share his passion and love of the game. Coach Jay has high expectations for his players athletically and academically. He enjoys helping his players become the best young men, sons, brothers, friends, and scholars that they can possible be.
Coach Colin was born and raised in Akron and has loved the game of football his entire life. He was raised with a loving supportive mother, Mary; his father, Robert, who was a star lineman at St. Vincent-St. Mary and Notre Dame; five brothers, who all played football at the little league, high school, and collegiate levels; and a sister, who cheered the brothers on regularly!
Coach Colin followed in his father’s footsteps as a lineman with the CYO’s Westside Saints, the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish (class of 2002), and the John Carroll Blue Streaks (class of 2006). Colin was named an All-OAC Center at John Carroll in 2005.
Coach Colin coached for three years in the Stow Youth Football program and three years with the Akron Armor. When he’s not coaching football, Colin works as an attorney with Blakemore, Meeker & Bowler Co., L.P.A. in Akron, Ohio. He and his wife spend time together juggling their four children’s busy athletic activities and schedules, while instilling the need for solid academics and attitudes
Coach Laymon Carter III started coaching in 2022 with the Akron Canton Pitbulls Semi-Pro organization as the running backs coach, where he won a championship. Coach Laymon is a graduate of Archbishop Hoban, class of 2009, where he led his team to the Ohio Division II Final Four his senior year. Coach Laymon and his significant other, Monique, have 4 beautiful girls, two of whom are scholar-athletes. Coach Laymon’s core values start with the classroom first and the field second. He plans to instill values and a culture that will help our young men become contributing members to our community. For those young scholar-athletes interested in our program, Coach Laymon says, "Be ready to work hard, be physical, and play fast. More importantly, let’s have fun, be coachable and ready to learn the game of football.
